The objectives call for an optical and an active microwave sensor payload who's high-resolution data may be used for such applications as cartographic mapping, environmental and hazard monitoring within 48 hours. The intent is to provide the user community with data of sufficient resolution to be able to generate , scale maps. This in turn requires observational data of 2. Multispectral data with 10 m horizontal resolution is needed for the classification of land cover vegetation, forests, etc. Short-term hazard monitoring within 24 hours on average will be accommodated by the use of pointing mechanisms.
Loss and damage: A case study of Nepal’s landslide
This list of landslides is a list of notable landslides and mudflows divided into sections by date and type. Volumes of landslides are recorded in the scientific literature using cubic kilometres km 3 for the largest and millions of cubic metres normally given the non-standard shortening of MCM for most events. The term landslide or, less frequently, landslip refers to several forms of mass wasting that may include a wide range of ground movements, such as rockfalls , deep-seated slope failures, mudflows , and debris flows. Gravity is the primary driving force for a landslide to occur, but there are other factors affecting slope stability that produce specific conditions that make a slope prone to failure. In many cases, the landslide is triggered by a specific event such as a heavy rainfall , an earthquake , a slope cut to build a road, and many others , although this is not always identifiable. Landslides occur when the slope or a portion of it undergoes some processes that change its condition from stable to unstable. This is essentially due to a decrease in the shear strength of the slope material, an increase in the shear stress borne by the material, or a combination of the two.
